Chapter 1 - Intro (Of darkness then reddness then whiteness)
I woke up and felt the warm air on my back. I propped myself up on one elbow and looked out the open window, again the sky was overcast and it was humid outside. Typical for Florida, Toby had moved 5 years ago and we had hardly talked since. We had the occasional skype calls but not a lot because he is always busy recording. Although I feel like I still know him very well, I watch all of his videos. He has always been able to make me laugh. When he lived in Florida we were always together, the best of friends. I didn’t like to hang out with other girls because of the drama. Thats why I mostly hung out with Toby, I can say though his looks have changed a lot. He used to be really nerdy, but I didn’t care. We were just friends anyways, thats all we wanted to be. More than anything I couldn’t wait till tomarrow, when I would fly out and supprise Toby at a vidcon in LA. I wasn’t looking torwards the ride though, I have always been afraid of planes although Toby loved them. He kind of has to because of all the traveling he does.
I got out of bed and went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I saw how my brown hair barley touched my shoulders. I had always had short hair but I finally decided to grow it out after having it short for a few years. I picked up my comb and slowly brushed my hair. I was in a half daze because I couldn’t wait till tomarrow. Hopefully everything goes well and I am able to spend some time with him while we are there. Since my flight would leave the next day, I started packing. I marched into the living room and searched around for my favorite Xbox games. I was still sleepy so I put one into the slot and turned on the gaming machine. I sat down on the couch and thought about when toby and I had played this. It was our favorite game. Even though we beat the game 3 times it was still fun to play. I had almost memorized what I was supposed to do. I switched through the profiles and decided to click on the one with the tag, “Buscus”. I had always been a bit better at him with this game but he was still pretty good.
After playing for about an hour I decided I better finish packing. I slipped all the clothes I would need and a few extra just incase something delayed my return. I grabbed the our favorite game and slid it into the bag, I’m sure he would be happy to play it since we haden’t in so long. I needed the extra batteries for my special controller, while rumaging through my desk I found the letter that Toby had given to me the day that he left since he couldn’t say good bye to me in person. I picked it up and plopped on the bed forgetting completly about the batteries.
It read, ” Christa, hope you have fun playing our game without me. Maybe you can get really good at it and we can play it again some day. I hope that I can find a friend as good as you in LA although you will never be replaced. I hope you stay a happy buscus while I’m away from you. Just remember we will see each other in the future. You know I don’t like writing so I’m just going to stop now.
Stay a happy Buscus,
I almost teared up reading it because it made me realize how much I missed him. I looked at it and tossed it asside on my dresser. After that I got dressed and headed to the kitchen to “make” breakfast which consisted of putting cherios into a bowl and then pooring milk in after. I pulled out a spoon and sat down on the table. I looked beside me and saw the paper sitting on the seat next to me. I picked it up, on the front page I saw an ad for Taco bell. This made me chuckle because it reminded me of the part he had played in a taco bell commercial. I flipped through the pages, again finding nothing interesting. I continued eating and thinking about how the weekend would pan out. I would leave tomarrow, which would be thursday afternoon which means I would be arrivind in LA either late tomarrow night or VERY early friday morning. When I thought about that it reminded me I needed to be somewhere in…. GREAT thirty minutes. I quickly finsihed eating and then rushed into the bathroom to brush my teeth and put on makeup. I glanced at the clock and saw I needed to leave now if I ever wanted to get to the game in time.
As I pulled in the parking lot of my little brothers baseball game I glanced out the window trying to find my mothers car. I couldn’t find it so I just parked the closest to the feild as I could. I got out and spotted my mother setting down her things, I rushed over and she greeted me with a hug. I saw my brother hanging around with his friends, punching each other on the sholder, doing typical 12 year old boy things. The bleachers filled up quick and then the game started. I watched as my brother got to the pitchers mound, he has always had a good arm. I heard my mother shout, “Go Derrick!”. He glansed at her an rolled his eyes. I saw him rub his right arm and wince in pain but I knew he could push through it. He threw the ball a little too far to the left which caused his team a point. He threw the next ball and the kid from the other team got a strike. He got a determind look on his face, got in his stance and threw the ball as hard as he could. The little boy hit the ball hard and threw the bat into the air, coming right torwards me.
